When I was a senior in high school, back in 1998, I was a little taken aback by the news that all seniors would be required to receive an MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination. It was unexpected, but I had no real issue with it. My parents were a little less than thrilled, but we accepted it.

The morning that we were to take our injections, I had a low-grade fever. That wasn't uncommon for me, honestly. As an asthmatic with severe allergies, I often experienced low-grave fevers. However, I thought it odd that the nurse administering the vaccine was insistent that I have the injection anyway. I had a nurse in the family, and she always assured me that fevers and jabs don't mix well.

I took my shot and went on with my day. But pretty quickly, I started to feel a little strange. I wasn't light headed, per se, but I did feel a little out of it. My low-grade fever climbed a few tenths of a degree, and I developed a rumbling headache.

I got off light.

A few of my class mates toppled out of their desks that day, hitting the floor dazed and clammy. A few others missed the next day of classes with "flu-like symptoms".

That was all it took to plant a seed in my head that things weren't quite right.

Years later (after a brief marriage and a swift divorce) I grew less trusting. Age and experiences assisted me in that evolution. I allowed my experience with the MMR vaccine to grow into a story idea. By late summer of 2014, I had a full blown zombie story in my head.

Now, I don't know what you believe about COVID 19. I don't care what your political ideas are. All I know is that I trust my government less now than I did when I was in high school, and even back then, I didn't think the shot was kosher.

No matter what you think about the origins of COVID 19 or the response our local governments have had in response to it, Extinction Vaccine may strike an eerie chord for you.
